Thank you for your expressed interest in the UCLA Family Medicine Residency. We hope you find the information on this page helpful in learning about our program and in navigating the application process.

All applications to our program (and supporting documents) must be submitted via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System). Your Student Affairs Office should be able to address questions you may have regarding ERAS. Note: written applications will not be accepted. Our Selection Committee will review your completed application and you will be notified of your interview status.

Requirements for All Applicants:

  • Completed ERAS residency application.
  • 2 letters of recommendation from completed rotations of which one preferably comes from a primary care specialty
  • 1 letter of recommendation from a Family Physician
  • Dean's Letter
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USLME Transcript
  • Personal Statement
  • Curriculum Vitae (ERAS CV is acceptable)
  • Photograph

Additional Requirements for Graduates of International Medical Schools (Except Canadian) and 5th Pathway Students:

  • 6-12 months of US-based hands on clinical experience (preferably in primary care)
  • Three letters of recommendation from American Medical School faculty who are acquainted with your clinical skills, either because they have worked with you prior to your arrival in the United States or because they have worked with you in an internship, externship, clerkship, 5th pathway or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of having passed the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams
  • ECFMG Certification
  • California medical license or eligibility to obtain a California Postgraduate Training License (PTL) within 180 days of starting as a resident in our program.
  • Appropriate VISA, if applicable (J-1 visas are acceptable; H-1B visas are not acceptable)
  • We do not have the graduation cut off date

The application deadline is October 20th.  Applicants are encouraged to apply early due to limited number of interview slots.
